Well, you had it! Open up your mailbox and there is yet another red stamped letter marked 'Final Notice' on the front. You could spend countless hours asking yourself why life is so unfair and how things got to this stage. No point blaming yourself or anybody, you know that it would not do any good. Refocus your energy and start getting out of debt.   Think Big Start Small   First, you want to consolidate all of your debts, bills, bank statements, and loans together. Analyze them and try to understand exactly what is required to make getting out of debt a reality.

Start getting out of debt by reducing the rate at which you are sinking into further debt. Start reducing your expenditure. Start small. You may want to pack your lunch every day for work. It may also be a good time to give up those break time candy bars, sodas, chips and cigarettes. Spend more time looking through the newspaper for discount coupons, special deals, and other money saving promotions.   If you simply are having a bit of slow time in business, or some unexpected expense like medical bill for example, think about what you can give up in the short term until you can catch up. You may want to cancel many of your premium services. After all, who really needs 178 channels of HBO? Or, a health club membership that you seldom use anyway? Think about it and compare the benefits to getting out of debt.

Have a Huge Debt?   Unfortunately, getting out of huge debt requires big effort. But, you still need to take care of all the low-lying fruits. So it would be wise to pull the plug on things like cable TV. If you cannot live without entertainment, then borrow. Go to the library or rent a movie. Cancel your long distance telephone service, and simply buy phone cards for your long distance needs if you seldom make long distance calls.   When you are shopping, always make a list and stick to it. Before that, you should try and plan your menus around what is on sale and what you can really afford. It is not going to kill you to eat the same food everyday until things get better for you. In fact, simple food like bananas is a lot healthier than things like cookies and a lot cheaper too.   Buy generic brand. They are often of comparable quality at a fraction of the price. Just imagine that with every bite you take you will be getting out of debt sooner. None of these cut backs are particularly hard to swallow if you are on the right track to getting out of debt.   Lastly, do not despair. Do not think of your debt as insurmountable. The ancients have level many mountains and they did it shovel by shovel. You can succeed in getting out of debt if you maintain the discipline and try hard enough.
